Dennis Theophilous Curtis was the first born son to the late Rev. Richard Lee and Nancy Louise Curtis, in Birmingham, Alabama. He grew up with his six sisters and brother in Brown Springs. He confessed to Christ at an early age and joined First Baptist Church East Lake.
Dennis attended Hayes High School where he was actively involved in drafting. He transferred to Phillips High School and graduated in the class of 1972. During the high school years he worked part time at the Brunos Grocery Store in Woodlawn. Upon graduation he continued to work for the company at various locations and became tenured as a Produce Manager with over 28 years of service. Most recently, Dennis worked for the Shades Valley YMCA.
As a talented draftsman and smart mechanic, Dennis was able to design and make repairs on just about anything. He was organized, artistic, and had the ability to create whatever he wanted. He was known as a dependable and reliable worker who could lead a team.
Dennis fathered an equally talented son, that he was very proud of when he attended Auburn University and went on to be an ordained minister. (Rev. Domecia Manuel) He also gained a daughter in-law, Melissa and two grandchildren, Faith and DeVonti.
On August 12, 2010, Dennis would have been 56 years old, but he made his transition from his physical presence on earth and his spirit will live in our hearts forever. Many people will cherish abundant memories of Dennis' life. His loving son, Rev. Domecia (Melissa) Manuel of Newnan, GA, two grandchildren, Faith and DeVonti Manuel. His only brother, Donald Dwight Curtis. Sisters: Betty Masuca, Mildred Horton, Ernestine Bugg, Joan (Joe) Taylor, Olita Williams of Atlanta, GA, Joyce (Aubrey) Burke of Tupelo, MS.
